François GÉNOT

François GÉNOT

> Route 2026

François Génot draws his attitude and the impetus for his approach from the resilience and proliferation of life. He develops a sensitive and energetic formal language, rhythmic with the experience of places. Travel, collecting, and a particular attention to materials, forms, and natural phenomena nourish his practice. His focus on the spontaneous nature of everyday life that inhabits our human-altered spaces opens doors to the human, animal, plant, and mineral worlds present, with which he seeks to find new ways of coexisting and sharing. The processes developed according to the seasons and the different environments he frequents allow him to maintain an active collaboration with the living world. The empirical methods born from his systems of attention, the interplay of forms and materials, and fieldwork demonstrate an approach geared towards understanding and translating other forms of language, other modes of expression of life. Active on the international scene since 2005, he has completed numerous residencies and exhibitions and his work is included in several public and private collections.
He has been teaching drawing and storytelling at the Ecole Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine in Metz since 2016. In 2024 he co-founded La maison des feuilles, a research and creation project in a rural area and developed a practice as a curator-publisher-mediator.
